HEART ATTACKS AND RHESUS MONKEY STUDIES
A study was done about 2 years ago with rhesus monkeys. The reason they were chosen is that there hearts most resemble ours. The reason they discovered that post menopausal women have heart attacks is not because their arteries are so clogged. It is because when they are clogged 30-50% and then stress is introduced, their arteries go into spasms and close off. The monkeys were divided into two groups of six; the first group was given a synthetic progesterone and then they were introduced to some stress that caused their arteries to go into spasm. For 15 minutes straight their arteries stayed in spasm and if they hadn't given them a shot of something to reverse the effect, they would have died.
