This is my long story...with a happy ending :) BACKGROUND My husband and I started ttc in February 2000. I had taken birth control pills for years and even had a Norplant for 5 years. We tried unsuccessfully for 7 months to get pregnant. I went to a fertility specialist, who looked at my temp charts and ordered an SA for my husband. Both looked good...it seemed I was ovulating and that my husband had a good count. After about three months, he let me try Clomid - at my request. I must tell you that he never pushed it on me, he said that it could help me and I was desperate to get pregnant. I had a strong reaction to Clomid (headaches, visual disturbances) so he decreased my dose to a 1/4 of a pill. The first cycle was unsuccessful. The second cycle I was on Clomid, I also found out about the trick of taking Robitussin to increase cervical mucus. That seemed to do the trick. I finally got pg in February 2001, a year after we had started. Unfortunately, it ended in miscarriage at 7 weeks, but it was a missed miscarriage so I didn't know until about my 9th week. I had a D&C in April 2001. The first cycle after my D&C, I asked to go back on Clomid. And I used the Robitussin. And I got pregnant again in May 2001. Unfortunately that also ended in the 8th week, with no outward symptoms. Another missed miscarriage. I had another D&C in July 2001. This time, my doctor suggested that I wait at least 3 months to try again. I agreed, thinking that I needed not only time to heal my body, but my soul. We ran some very expensive tests to see if my body was rejecting the baby or if maybe my placenta was clotting. All tests turned out negative. I was very frustrated. INFERTILITY WORKSHOP During all my internet research, I was introduced to the InfertilityWorkshop by Ami, who was in my PregnancyAfterMiscarriage group. I was so ready for a more natural approach. So I lurked for a bit and continued to research. Even though I was due to start ttc again, I decided to do the shutdown instead. I completed a questionnaire, "met" Brenda via email, found that I liked her message and offered to help her with her website since she was having such difficulty with it at the time. She graciously accepted my help, and we did a phone consultation about my questionnaire. She questioned my commitment to a healthier way. I promised her that I would be committed to making changes, including delaying ttc for another 3 months to do the shutdown. EATING HEALTHY I started eating a lot of carrots and buying hormone free beef for meals at home. I'm a sugar-aholic, and it's not something I am going to be able to give up completely, but I am trying to cut down on sugar. I have switched to soy milk for my cereal. Cheese is also something I really love, and need to cut down on. I have given up my ice cream for whole fruit sorbet. SHUTDOWN And I started my shutdown on October 29, 2001 using the Progesterone Cream. I also started to take supplements like Green Barley, Sea Silver, licorice root, burdock root and Coral Calcium. I ended my shutdown on January 25, 2002. SUCCESS On my first cycle after the shutdown, I ovulated on CD 13...unbelievably early for me (usually after CD 16). For the first time in my life, I saw ferning. I used to use the Ovu-Tec and never saw anything but dots. With the Fertility Tracker, I saw ferning. Up to then, I thought they never even existed! I tested positive on February 22, 2002. No Clomid, no Robitussin...all naturally. I am hopeful that this pregnancy will be successful. THANKS Thank you Brenda, for your encouragement and support. Meeting you is a truly a blessing. I am convinced that God brought us together. I am deeply thankful for your knowledge and for your friendship. Hugs, Maida Read more Testimonies |
